Chacocente Wildlife Refuge: dry forest and turtle protection
The Río Escalante–Chacocente refuge spans an area linked with Carazo and Rivas, protecting tropical dry forest and a sea-turtle nesting zone. It is a conservation site, not an unrestricted recreational beach.
What you can experience
Choose a responsible outing only through the authorised arrangements of the refuge. Turtle observations depend on natural cycles, and a visit must not guarantee wildlife encounters.
How to plan access
Confirm permission, visitor rules, the appropriate approach and any local guide before travelling. Plan the return transport rather than treating the refuge as an ordinary roadside stop.
Before you go
Follow strict conservation instructions, avoid nesting zones that are closed and never disturb turtles, eggs or other wildlife. Respect any seasonal restrictions.
